Prerequisites

• You have your main residence in Hamburg
• You are a professional driver or are in training to become one.
• You hold a driving licence of categories C1, C1E, C, CE, D1, D1E, D or DE.
• You have a basic qualification or further training.
• You submit your application for the issue, extension or renewal of the driver qualification certificate as part of the application for the initial issue, extension, renewal or reissue of a Class C or Class D driving licence.

Documents required

• a valid identity card or an electronic residence permit (eAT) or passport with current confirmation of registration
• the EU card driving license
• a biometric passport photo 35 x 45 millimeters
• proof of basic qualification and proof of advanced training modules
• the appointment confirmation

Please note

The basic qualification must be demonstrated by all drivers who

• obtained their D-class driving license after 9 September 2008.
• obtained their C-class driving license after 9 September 2009.
• Are a citizen of a member state of the EU or the European Economic Community (EEC) or work for a company based in the EU or the EEC and carry out commercial journeys (including work-related transport or auxiliary transport activities) on public roads with the following vehicles:
• Vehicles with a permissible total weight of over 3.5 tonnes in freight or company transport (C classes).
• Vehicles with more than eight passenger seats in passenger transport (D classes).

Deadlines

After acquiring the basic qualification, you must then renew it every five years through further training.

Procedure

• You book an appointment online.
  • On our website for booking appointments, select the category "Driver's License"
  • Book the appointment "Application for driver qualification certificate"
  • You will receive an email. Confirm your reservation using the link in the email.
• Bring all necessary documents and the appointment confirmation with you to your appointment at the LBV.
• Scan the QR code on your appointment confirmation using the scanner on site.
• Take a seat in the waiting area. You will be called by your call number.
• Your request will be processed on site.
• Your driver qualification certificate will be created by the Federal Printing Office and sent to you by post.

Processing time

Production time is 3-4 weeks. Delivery is usually made directly by the Federal Printing Office.

Fees

32.50 EUR.


The driver qualification certificate is usually sent directly by the Federal Printing Office. An additional fee of EUR 3.50 will be charged for this.


Additional costs depend on the type of application and can only be determined upon application. The fee amount is based on the Fee Schedule for Measures in Road Traffic (GebOSt).
