Prerequisites

• You no longer have your driving license or you need to renew it. You must also submit an application for a replacement or renewal of your driving license in order to receive a provisional driving license.
• The main residence of the driver’s license holder is Hamburg

Documents required

• a valid identity card or an electronic residence permit (eAT) or passport with current confirmation of registration
• if applicable, the existing driving license
• the appointment confirmation

Please note

validity

The provisional driving license is only valid in Germany, usually for 3 months, and does not entitle you to drive abroad.

Application location
The State Transport Authority (LBV). Applications can only be made at the LBV-Mitte or LBV-Nord locations.

Appointment booking
Appointments can be booked through the State Transport Authority (LBV). Please proceed as follows:
1. Visit the website for booking appointments (see link below) and select under the service group Driving License
a. the Driver License Theft service if your driver’s license has been stolen,
b. the service Driving license loss/replacement for damaged driving license if you have lost your driving license or it is damaged,
c. the service of driver’s license extension D(for D class driving licenses), if your temporary driving license has expired or
d. the C/CE driving license extension service (for C class driving licenses).
2. Use the location selection to display appointments at a specific location.
3. After selecting the location, use the calendar displayed to select a free appointment (date and time).
4. Now enter your name and email address for booking.
5. You will receive an email. Please confirm the appointment.

Please be sure to bring the appointment confirmation that you will receive afterwards with you to the appointment.

Processing time

immediately, provided all requirements are met.

Fees

The fees range from EUR 10.50 to EUR 19.10 for a provisional driving license. The basis for this is the fee schedule for measures in road traffic (GebOSt).
