If you can prove that you have a legitimate interest, you may be issued a second passport in certain cases.

Detailed description

As a rule, each person may only have one valid passport.

If you can provide a plausible and important reason why you need two passports, you can be issued with a second passport. This may be the case if

  • You travel a lot for professional reasons and need a second passport due to delays in obtaining visas.
  • You travel to a country and are likely to be refused entry because your passport contains entry stamps from certain other countries.
 

Information

Prerequisites

  • You already have a valid passport.
  • You can give an important reason why you need a second passport.
  • Your justification meets the legal requirements.
  • You have German citizenship.
  • You are present in person.

Documents required

  • Current biometric passport photo (A photo booth is available. The cost for an on-site photo is 鈧�6.00. You will not receive a printout. The photo booth is not suitable for passport photos of infants and small children.)
  • Proof of the need for a second passport (e.g., employer's certificate of frequent travel abroad or travel confirmation for travel to certain countries)
  • valid passport or identity card

Please note

General reasons, frequent trips abroad or the fact that your passport is already fully stamped with visas are not sufficient to obtain a second passport.



Even if you already had a second passport, you must provide evidence of the reasons again when reissuing a new one.

Deadlines

Validity period: 6 years

Procedure

- You can make an appointment online or by calling 115.

  • You appear in person at the appointment and apply for the second passport by submitting the necessary documents.
  • The fingerprints of your index fingers are scanned and stored electronically.
  • The second passport will be ordered for you from an external agency.
  • You will receive a collection slip with which you can collect the second passport.
  • You pay the fees.
  • You can find out when your second passport is ready for collection using the QR code on the collection slip.
  • You or a person authorized by you will collect the second passport.

Processing time

The application process takes approximately 15 minutes.


Approximately 4 to 6 weeks after submitting your application, you can collect your second passport from the office where you applied for it.


Approximately 3 to 5 working days after submitting your application, you can collect your express second passport from the office where you applied for it.

Fees


  • 37.50 EUR for applicants under 24 years of age

  • 70.00 EUR for applicants aged 24 and over




Possible additional charges:

  • 22.00 EUR for a second passport with 48 pages

  • 32.00 EUR for a second passport using the express procedure

Regardless of where you live in Hamburg, you can use this service at any Hamburg Service location for resident matters.

If you would like to apply for an identity card, passport or child's passport, you can use an existing self-registration terminal (Speed Capture Terminal) to capture the necessary biometric data (photo, signature, fingerprints). In this case, there is no need to bring a photo. It costs 6 euros to use. A clerk is to be visited afterwards, appointments are recommended

If you would like to apply for an identity card, passport or children's passport, you can use an existing self-recording terminal (Speed Capture Terminal) to capture the necessary biometric data (digital photo, signature, fingerprints).


Please allow a few minutes more time before your appointment to collect your data.


Note: You will not receive a printout of the digital photo.


There is no need to bring a passport photo with you when using the self-registration terminal.


Use costs 6 euros.


Please speak to the clerk afterwards.



The existing self-recording terminal (Speed Capture Terminal) cannot be used for fishing licenses and driver's license applications. Please bring a passport photo (biometric) with you for these services.
