If you have lost the certificate of your withdrawal from the church, you can apply for a replacement certificate.

Prerequisites

  • They have already left the church.

Documents required

  • ID card or passport

Please note

If you left the church before March 1, 2024, please contact the registry office in Hamburg in the district where you were resident at the time of your resignation.


If you left the church after March 1, 2024, please contact the Hamburg Service locations in Altona, Barmbek-Uhlenhorst, City or Harburg.



If you no longer know where and when you left the church, you can contact the following institutions in Hamburg and find out the registration number as well as the date and place of your church exit:

  • For former Protestant church members: Registration office of the Hamburg-East church district, Tel.: +49 40 519000-240.
  • For former Catholic Church members: Catholic Church Office, Tel.: +49 40 24877-100.

Deadlines

The registry office retains the declaration of withdrawal from the church for 30 years. A certificate may not be issued for older documents.

Procedure

  • You apply for the replacement certificate in person at the responsible authority and submit the necessary documents.
  • The responsible authority will examine your application.
  • You will receive the replacement certificate.

You can use this service regardless of your place of residence in Hamburg at the following Hamburg Service locations for residents' affairs:

Mon-Fri 7am-7pm, visits are only possible by appointment. You can book an appointment online (https://www.ºÚÁÏÀÏ˾»ú/go/17584) or by phone at 040 115.

The main entrance to Harburger Rathausforum 3 is located at the rear of the building and can be reached via the inner courtyard of the building complex. To get to the inner courtyard, use the entrance on Knoopstrasse. The mailbox is located at Harburger Rathausplatz 1 (town hall). There are no customer parking spaces available.

If you would like to apply for an identity card, passport or children's passport, you can use an existing self-recording terminal (Speed Capture Terminal) to capture the necessary biometric data (digital photo, signature, fingerprints).


Please allow a few minutes more time before your appointment to collect your data.


Note: You will not receive a printout of the digital photo.


There is no need to bring a passport photo with you when using the self-registration terminal.


Use costs 6 euros.


Please speak to the clerk afterwards.



The existing self-recording terminal (Speed Capture Terminal) cannot be used for fishing licenses and driver's license applications. Please bring a passport photo (biometric) with you for these services.
