Prerequisites

The vehicle is still registered in Hamburg.

Documents required

The notification of sale contains the following data:

• Name, first name and full address of the purchaser
• Name, first name and full address of the seller
• the registration number of the vehicle
• Confirmation of the purchaser with signature that he has received the registration certificate part I and part II as well as the license plates

Please note

The notification of sale must contain the complete details of the purchaser (name and address) and the vehicle (license plate and vehicle identification number).

Relief from vehicle tax only occurs when the vehicle has been re-registered or de-registered.

The notification of sale must be made in writing.
You can submit your notification by mail or as a scanned document via email. Alternatively, you can submit it in person at one of the LBV locations (no appointment required).
You can submit the notification of sale in the following ways:

• in person: on-site at all LBV locations

Vehicle sales abroad
When selling a vehicle abroad, it is advisable to decommission the vehicle beforehand, as feedback from abroad cannot always be reliably guaranteed.
