Prerequisites

• Your identity card is valid.
• You have activated the online function of your identity card.
• You have a current registration confirmation and the landlord confirmation as proof of your change of address.

When registering an apartment online:

• You have activated the online function of your identity card.
• You have a smartphone.
• You have installed the AusweisApp on your smartphone.

Documents required

Please note

• You can only change your address online on the chip in your ID card if you register a new place of residence at the same time.
• If the change of address is based on an electronic residence registration, no personal appearance is necessary.

Procedure

To change the address of your electronic ID, you must come in person to a Hamburg Service Resident Affairs location.

• There you present your valid identity card, your official registration confirmation and the housing provider confirmation.
• Your new address will be saved on the chip of your ID card.

If your address has changed through an electronic residence registration, your new address will automatically be transferred from the population register to the chip in your identity card.

Processing time

Updating the chip is automatic and takes a few seconds.
