Detailed description

Under certain conditions, you can request information from the vehicle register. This information can only be provided if it is necessary to pursue legal claims related to road traffic, for example, in the event of a traffic accident.

 

Information

Prerequisites

  • Legitimate interest in connection with road traffic (e.g. after a traffic accident; see Section 39 of the Road Traffic Act [StVG]).

Documents required

  • Identity card or passport
  • Written justification for your request

Please note

  • You must submit your request for information either in person or in writing. Requests or queries cannot be answered over the phone.
  • This information is available for Hamburg vehicles with official license plates, as well as for temporary license plates (short-term license plates and red license plates). Insurance license plates are not stored in the local vehicle register. You must contact the relevant motor vehicle insurer for this information.
