Prerequisites
Basically for the nationwide legal claim:
- Child registered with primary residence in Hamburg, deviations are possible in individual cases
- Children from the age of 1 year up to pre-school class or until they start school if no pre-school class is used.
In addition, for day care of more than 5 to a maximum of 12 hours per day and/or for children under 1 year of age, for example, one of the following requirements must be met:
- Employment
- Education
- continuing Professional Education
- Measure for integration into work (Hartz IV)
- German language courses for migrants
- Integration courses
- in case of urgent social or educational need
(generally applies to all adults registered in the household)
Documents required
- fully completed and signed application (see link)
- Completed and signed questionnaire on financial circumstances (only if care is required for more than 5 hours - see link)
- Copy of the identity cards/passports of the legal guardians registered with the child
- Proof of income (only if care is required for more than 5 hours) (see link)
If the child is cared for for more than 5 hours per day or before the child reaches the age of 1, additional proof must be provided showing the daily working hours or course time (from/to), e.g.:
- Copy of the employment contract or training contract or
- Certificate from the employer confirming the start of employment (only if the daily working hours are not stated in the employment/training contract or if the employee starts work after parental leave because the old employment contract does not contain the date of the start of work) or
- Proof of integration measure or
- Proof of attendance of language courses, integration courses
In case of educational need: current proof of need either from the General Social Service (ASD) or the daycare center.
Please note
Applications are usually approved for a maximum of one year, unless the need is shorter than one year. After this, a follow-up application may need to be submitted.
Applications can be submitted in person at the entrance of the SDZ (Social Services Center), if one exists in the district (only then will an application confirmation be issued). If there is no SDZ, applications are accepted in the child day care departments.
Applications can also be sent by post, fax or email (email only if the required forms have been scanned with the original signature).
In all correspondence please always state the following:
- Child's last name
- First name of the child
- Date of birth of the child
- Complete registration address of the child
Deadlines
A new application (initial application) can be submitted six months before the start of care. The approval period can begin at the earliest from the time the application is received.
