Apply for a residence permit for persons entitled under the EEC/Türkiye Association Agreement

If you have Turkish citizenship and live or work in Germany, you may have special residence rights.

Detailed description

If you have Turkish citizenship and live and work in Germany, you and your family members who also have Turkish citizenship and live in Germany can, under certain conditions, obtain a residence permit. This residence permit allows you to stay and work in Germany for a specific period of time.

 

Information

Prerequisites

  • You have Turkish citizenship and live and work in Germany or
  • You belong to the family of a person with Turkish nationality living and working in Germany, you yourself also have Turkish nationality and live in Germany.

Documents required

  • valid passport or passport replacement of your country of origin
  • biometric passport photo in electronic form
  • You can have your passport photo taken on-site. A photo booth is available.
  • You can have a passport photo taken by a certified photographer, who will then make it available electronically to the relevant authority via a cloud.
  • Additional evidence of employment in Germany (e.g., employment contract, employment certificate, salary slips)
  • Additional proof for family members: documentary proof of relationship (e.g. birth certificate, marriage certificate; for foreign documents with translation and apostille or legalization

Procedure

  • You use the provided online service to apply for a residence permit and upload the required documents.
  • The responsible office will then send you an appointment for an interview.
  • Please bring all required documents, preferably in original, to the appointment.
  • The responsible authority will check your identity and documents.
  • The competent authority shall involve other authorities where necessary.
  • You pay the necessary fees.
  • If your application is approved, your fingerprints, signature and a biometric photo will be taken to produce the electronic residence permit (eAT).
  • The responsible authority commissions an external agency, the Federal Printing Office, to produce your eAT.
  • Once your eAT is ready, you can pick it up in person from the responsible office. The responsible office will schedule an appointment for you.
  • If your application is rejected, you will receive a rejection notice stating the reasons for the rejection.

Processing time

Processing will begin immediately at the appointment if all documents are complete. The delivery time for the electronic residence permit from the Federal Printing Office is typically two to four weeks.

Fees


  • Persons up to the age of 24: 22.80 euros

  • Persons aged 24 and over: 37 euros


Certain groups of people may be exempt from the fee. The responsible authority can provide further information.
