Please note
The caterpillars of the oak processionary moth have tiny stinging hairs. These hairs are poisonous and can cause health problems if touched. If your skin comes into contact with them, it can itch intensely. Red hives or inflammation can develop. Your eyes or respiratory tract can also become irritated. Sometimes dizziness, fever, or circulatory problems occur. These symptoms can last from two days to two weeks.
If you discover an infestation on your property, you as the owner are responsible for having the caterpillars removed by a specialist company at your own expense.
The Plant Protection Office will advise you by phone at 428 41 5220. The office hours are
Monday 12:30 - 15:30
Friday 9:00 - 12:00
Until the caterpillars are removed, you should avoid infested areas.
If you come into contact with the stinging hairs, go home as quickly as possible. Remove your clothes and shower thoroughly. In case of eye contact, rinse your eyes with clean water. Wash your clothes at 60 degrees Celsius. If you experience severe symptoms, seek medical attention.
