Procedure
You can apply in person or by mail. You can only apply for a driver card by mail if you have a German EU card driver's license. If you have a foreign EU card driver's license, you must apply for your driver card in person.
Application on site:
- You book an appointment online.
- On our website for booking appointments, select the category "Driver's License"
- Book the appointment "Application for driver card"
- You will receive an email. Confirm your reserved appointment using the link in the email.
- Bring all necessary documents and the appointment confirmation with you to your appointment at the LBV.
- Scan the QR code on your appointment confirmation using the scanner on site.
- Take a seat in the waiting area. You will be called by your call number.
- Your request will be processed on site.
- Once produced, the driver card will be sent to you by registered mail.
Application by mail (no on-site visit necessary):
- You send your documents and the application form by post to the LBV.
- Your request will be processed on site.
- Once produced, the driver card will be sent to you by registered mail.
Processing time
It takes approximately 5-10 working days to create your driver card.
Fees
38.00 EUR - 41.00 EUR.
The exact amount of the fee can only be determined on site based on the complete documents. If the driver's license needs to be exchanged for the current EU card format, additional fees of EUR 26.50 - EUR 65.70 will be charged. The basis for this is the fee schedule for measures in road traffic (GebOSt).
