Apply for a driver鈥檚 license extension from class B to trailer class E

If you have a class B car driving license, you can extend it to include a class E trailer license.

Detailed description

If you already have a Class B (car) driver's license, you can upgrade it to include additional driving privileges. You can also upgrade to include a Class E trailer license, allowing you to tow larger and heavier trailers with your car (Class BE).



With a class BE driving license, you can tow a trailer with a total weight of up to 3,500 kg. With a class B car driving license, however, you are only allowed to tow trailers with a maximum total weight of 750 kg.


To apply for a trailer driving license, you can usually submit your documents to your driving school and they will take care of everything else for you.

Prerequisites

  • Her main residence is in Hamburg.
  • You are at least 18 years old. You can submit your application six months before reaching the minimum age.
  • You already have a class B driving license or you are applying for one at the same time.

Documents required

  • valid identity card, electronic residence permit (eAT) or passport with current confirmation of registration
  • biometric passport photo (35x45 mm)
  • Certificate of participation in a first aid training course
  • eye test (not older than 2 years)
  • if the application is not submitted via the driving school: appointment confirmation

Please note

The LBV-Mitte and LBV-Nord driving license offices are responsible for issuing driving licenses.

Deadlines

You can submit the application at the earliest six months before reaching the minimum age (18 years).

Procedure

  • You choose a driving school and register.
  • As a rule, you submit all the documents required to apply for your driver's license to the driving school. Your driving school will then take care of everything necessary and inform you about the next steps in your driving training.
  • Your driving license will usually be issued to you immediately after you pass the practical test.

Processing time

The processing takes place parallel to your training at the driving school.

43.40 EUR.
