Prerequisites

• You submit your application in person.
• You have your main residence in Hamburg.
• Your name change has already been completed in your identification documents (identity card or passport).

Documents required

• the current driving license
• a valid identity card or an electronic residence permit (eAT) or passport with a current registration confirmation with the new name,
• 1 biometric passport photo 35 x 45 mm,
• Index card copy - only required if no EU card driving license has yet been issued and the last driving license was not issued in Hamburg (see also link)
• International driving license, if available.
• Appointment confirmation

Additionally for name changes:

• the marriage certificate or the name change certificate

Additionally, if the driving license requirements change:

• Documents proving that a condition is no longer necessary (for example, a medical report).
  • To cancel a visual aid, an ophthalmological report must be submitted in accordance with Annex 6.2 FeV.

Deadlines

The validity of driving licenses issued after January 19, 2013, is limited to 15 years; after that, you must apply for a new driving license. Your driving license remains valid; no new test is required. Driving licenses issued before January 19, 2013, must be exchanged by January 19, 2033, at the latest.

Procedure

• You book an appointment online.
  • On our website for booking appointments, select the category "Driver's License"
  • Book the appointment "Change of driving license data"
  • You will receive an email. Confirm your reservation using the link in the email.
• Bring all necessary documents and the appointment confirmation with you to your appointment at the LBV.
• Scan the QR code on your appointment confirmation using the scanner on site.
• Take a seat in the waiting area. You will be called by your call number.
• Your request is being processed.
• Once produced, your new driving license will be sent to you by registered mail.

Processing time

The production time at the Federal Printing Office is approximately 3-4 weeks. The driver's license will be sent to you directly from the Federal Printing Office. Express processing at the Federal Printing Office takes 3 business days.

Fees

The fee is EUR 44.70 and is based on the fee schedule for measures in road traffic (GebOSt). Additional fees apply for express orders.
