Prerequisites

• For private individuals: The registered residence is in Hamburg
• For companies: The registered office or place of establishment of the company or trader is Hamburg
• You only want to use your vehicle on the road for between 2 and 11 months.

Documents required

• a valid original identity card or passport with current registration confirmation
• the electronic insurance confirmation (eVB Code) with details of the insurance period, available from the motor vehicle insurance company
• the registration certificate part I (vehicle registration document) or the deregistration certificate
• the registration certificate part II (vehicle registration document)
• the license plates if the vehicle is still registered
• the valid test certificate of the main inspection (HU), if the main inspection was already required; you can see this in the registration certificate Part I

if an authorized representative submits the application on your behalf

• the authorized representative's ID
• a legible color copy of the vehicle owner’s ID card
• an original SEPA combined mandate for the collection of motor vehicle tax by direct debit
  (If the tax is to be paid not by the owner himself but by a so-called willing third party, a copy of the willing third party's identity card must be submitted.)
• the appointment confirmation

Companies must also submit the following documents:

• proof of company registration (for example, an extract from the commercial register, the business registration or, in the case of registered associations, an extract from the association register)

If an authorized representative submits the application on your behalf:

• legible color copy of the company's authorized signatory's ID card

Please note

The period of registration for public road traffic must correspond to the period stated in the insurance certificate.

The duration of registration is stamped on the right side of the license plate and also entered in Part I of the registration certificate.

Because the period is embossed on the license plate, there's less space for letters and numbers. Therefore, the license plate can have a maximum of seven characters (including the HH).

If the period of a seasonal license plate changes, you must create new license plates and have the registration certificate Part I adjusted.

Special features of short-term license plates

The issue of a short-term license plate is also possible for vehicles with seasonal license plates (outside the season).

If the holder and owner of the vehicle are not the same (as is the case with leased vehicles), the LBV must be informed of who the vehicle is to be registered to.

Deadlines

With a seasonal license plate, the vehicle can be registered for a period of at least 2 months up to a maximum of 11 months.


The vehicle can only be registered for full months, i.e. always starting on the 1st of a month and ending on the last day of a month.

Procedure

• Book an appointment online.
  • On our website, select the category "Vehicle Registration"
  • Then book "Relabeling at your own request"
  • You will receive an email. Confirm your reservation using the link in the email.
• Bring all necessary documents and the appointment confirmation with you to your appointment at the LBV.
• Scan the QR code on your appointment confirmation using the scanner on site.
• Take a seat in the waiting area. You will be called by your call number.
• Your request is being processed.
• Documents and signs will be given to you.
• Your vehicle is registered.

Processing time

Your application will be processed directly on site.

Fees

The fee is between EUR 26.30 and EUR 50.00.


The exact amount can only be determined on-site based on the submission of all documentation. It is based on the fee schedule for road traffic measures (GebOSt).
