Detailed description

Some cities have established so-called environmental zones to reduce pollutant and particulate matter pollution in city centers and improve overall air quality. To drive in these zones, you need an environmental sticker for your vehicle.
The sticker is available in three different colors, each assigned to a pollutant group. Your vehicle's classification into one of these pollutant groups is determined by the emission code numbers in your vehicle documents.

Information

Prerequisites

  • Your vehicle's emissions can be found in your vehicle documents. (In Part I of the vehicle registration certificate, this is shown by the key number in field 14.1. In older vehicle registration documents, this is field 1.)
  • The vehicle is registered in Germany or abroad.

Documents required

  • Registration certificate part I or vehicle registration document

Please note

There is currently no low-emission zone in Hamburg, so you don't need an environmental sticker. However, it may be mandatory for driving to other major cities.

An environmental sticker can only be issued locally by the LBV as part of a vehicle registration. Subsequent issuance on-site is not possible; in this case, the environmental sticker can be ordered from the LBV. Particulate matter stickers are also available at:

  • any registration office or
  • any body authorized to carry out emissions tests (for example, TÜV, Dekra, GTÜ, KÜS and FSP, car repair shops)

If you re-register a vehicle and your license plate number changes, you will need a new environmental sticker. The number on the sticker must match the current license plate number.
