Prerequisites

• Her main residence is in Hamburg
• For companies: Your place of business or the location of the company’s or trader’s branch is in Hamburg.
• You own a new vehicle.

Documents required

• valid identity card, electronic residence permit (eAT) or passport with current confirmation of registration
• Registration certificate part II (vehicle registration document; if completed by the manufacturer)
• CoC paper or EEC certificate of conformity
• Electronic insurance confirmation as an eVB code (available from your car insurance company)
• Original SEPA combined mandate for collecting vehicle tax by direct debit (form can be found under Services and Links). If the tax is to be paid not by the owner themselves but by a so-called third party willing to pay, a copy of the third party's ID card is required.
• Appointment confirmation
• When registering a motorhome: original purchase contract or invoice

Additionally, if another person submits the application on your behalf:

• Power of attorney in original
• Copy of the principal's identity card
• Original identity card of the authorized representative

Additionally for companies or associations:

• Company or association registration certificate (e.g. extract from the commercial register or association register)

The LBV reserves the right to conduct identity checks on the vehicle in individual cases. For this purpose, the vehicle may be required to be presented.

Please note that if you deregister your previous vehicle at the same time (appointment "Registration of a brand new vehicle and deregistration"), additional documents are required. You can find out what you need for deregistration under Deregistering a vehicle.

Appointment booking

• Visit our website to book an appointment (see link below).
• Select the category: Vehicle registration
• Then select: registration of a brand new vehicle (except motorhomes) or registration of a brand new motorhome or registration of a brand new vehicle and deregistration.
• Follow the steps to reserve an appointment.
• You will receive an email. Confirm your reservation using the link in the email.
• You will receive an appointment confirmation. Please bring it with you to your appointment.

If the keeper and owner of the vehicle are not the same person, the LBV must be informed of the name to which the vehicle is to be registered. This applies, for example, to leased vehicles.

Deadlines

There are no deadlines.

Procedure

• Book an appointment online.
• Bring all necessary documents with you.
• Your request will be processed on site.
• Documents and signs will be given to you.
• Your vehicle is registered.

Alternatively, you can register your vehicle online using the online service Internet-based vehicle registration (i-Kfz).

Processing time

New registration is usually granted immediately.

Fees

The fees for initial registration range from EUR 26.30 to EUR 60.00.


The exact amount can only be determined on-site based on the complete documentation. This is based on the Fee Schedule for Measures in Road Traffic (GebOSt).
