Special reporting obligation for barges and seafarers

If you are moving onto an inland vessel that is registered for a domestic ship register, you must register.


If you are the captain or crew member of a seagoing vessel, the shipowner will register you at the beginning of your employment, contract or apprenticeship.

Detailed description

If you are embarking on an inland vessel that is registered for a domestic ship register, you must register at the location of the ship's home port.



If you sail on a seagoing vessel that is authorized to fly the federal flag, the shipowner will register you at the beginning of the employment, hiring or training relationship. To do this, you must provide the shipowner with the necessary information.



In both cases, there is no obligation to register if you are registered for an apartment in Germany.

Prerequisites

  • The inland waterway vessel on which you register must be registered for a domestic ship register.
  • The seagoing vessel registered by the shipowner must be entitled to fly the federal flag.

Documents required

  • Confirmation from the landlord
  • ID card or passport

Please note

  • For inland vessels, the regulations on the general obligation to report apply.
  • Registration is only possible in the customer center in Hamburg-Mitte.

Deadlines

You must register with the registration office within two weeks of moving in. Late registrations can be punished with a fine.

Procedure

  • You make an appointment with the Hamburg Service on site - Residents' Affairs Department of the Hamburg-Mitte District Office
  • You appear in person at the Hamburg Service on site - Residents' Affairs Department Hamburg-Mitte or are represented by a person with power of attorney.
  • You fill out the registration form and sign it (except in the case of an automated registration register).
  • You submit all necessary documents.
  • Finally, you will receive an official registration confirmation from the registration authority.

Processing time

Registration takes about 12 minutes.

Fees


  • The fees are 12 EUR

    • per adult, or

    • per person under the age of 18 auditioning alone.
