International Offices

The International Offices support and inform international students and scholars as well as local students and staff going abroad.

Almost every higher education institution in Hamburg has its own International Office. Larger institutions may actually have more than one with individual international offices in various faculties or departments.

The International Office is responsible for coordinating all international affairs, administering and enhancing the university's international relations, and organising the university's exchange and mobility programmes. International Offices help foreign students to familiarise themselves with local university processes, for example through introductory and orientation events, and often offer advice on visa or financial issues. Some International Offices have established buddy programmes, through which local students help newcomers with questions related to study and the university as well as everyday issues, such as social matters and getting to know the city.
