Fluctoplasma Festival Hamburg

A four-day celebration of art, diversity and social debate across Hamburg.

Thomas Byczkowski

Art, Debate and Diversity

Fluctoplasma is Hamburg’s festival dedicated to art, discourse and diversity. Over four days, the city becomes a meeting point for artists, collectives and speakers from across the globe who use their work to explore themes of democracy, solidarity and equality. The event invites audiences to question their perspectives, embrace complexity, and engage with ideas that challenge conventional structures.

A Festival for a Fluid Society

Founded in 2020, Fluctoplasma was born from the vision of creating a more inclusive and equitable urban society. The festival embraces fluidity and multiplicity, showcasing performances, talks, readings, and debates that reflect the lived experiences of queer, Jewish, Bi_PoC and other marginalised communities. Its ethos is to highlight solidarity and diversity in everyday life, offering an alternative cultural space where different voices are equally heard.

Who Organises Fluctoplasma?

The festival is a project of the non-profit association fluxus² e.V., an organisation dedicated to fostering international cultural exchange. The conceptual and organisational work is carried out by Studio Marshmallow, an interdisciplinary artist collective and production office. Alongside them, numerous volunteers, interns and partners help bring the programme to life each year, making Fluctoplasma both a professional and grassroots effort.

Programme and Venues

The Fluctoplasma programme typically spans concerts, parties, performances, literature events and conferences. One of its highlights is the conference Tilting Structures, which goes beyond representation to critically examine diversity in cultural and societal contexts. Events take place across a variety of Hamburg venues, including theatres, cultural centres, libraries and independent art spaces, ensuring the festival is deeply embedded in the city’s cultural fabric.

Ticketing and Accessibility

Fluctoplasma aims to remain accessible and inclusive. Festival passes and single tickets are offered on a sliding scale, allowing visitors to decide what they can pay. Children under 14 enter for free, and accompanying persons for visitors with disabilities do not require their own ticket. In addition, the festival provides a mediathek for digital access, alongside a clear code of conduct, content notes and awareness structures to ensure a respectful environment for all attendees.

Fluctoplasma 2025: Visions Beyond the West

The 2025 edition of Fluctoplasma takes place from 23 to 26 October under the motto “visions beyond the west”. Over the course of 96 hours, audiences are invited to imagine new global orders and alternative futures. Events are hosted at venues including the Lichthof Theater, RecGround Studio, TONALi, Westwerk and the Hamburg Central Library.
