(Kiel Week) is the biggest sailing regatta in the world. Featuring sailing competitions, live music and countless food stands off the water, Germany's second largest public festival (paled only by the world-famous Oktoberfest)聽is an unmissable event.
Sailing Competitions
The biggest draw at Kieler Woche comes from the spectacular on water activities聽鈹�聽sailing teams come from all across the world to compete in some of the most competitive races in the world. With a variety of different classes for smaller and larger boats, one man or several man crews, it is truly an exciting experience.
Exciting Parades
This nautical experience is topped off by the spectacular Tall Ships parade (Windjammer Parade). One of the biggest tall ship conventions in Germany, more than 100 ships and many yachts participate on the penultimate day of the Kieler Woche. The two hour parade is unique and spectacular, with people traveling from across the world to see the spectacle.
Off-Water Events
There is also a huge variety of events off the water聽鈹�聽visitors can enjoy a packed schedule of cultural events and music, suitable for young and old.
Over 300 concerts will be held in various locations across the city, from the very North, all the way down to the focal point of the week at the Olympic Yacht Harbour Kiel-Schilksee.
International stars, newcomers and locals all get a chance to shine on one of the many stages across the city.
There is also a huge range of activities for kids聽鈹�聽from painting to playing or watching a classic Punch and Judy show.
Shows and Theatre
The Kieler Woche Hoftheater will be open, showing puppet performances by theatre companies from across the globe, as well as dancing and jazz events. Open air stages and performances by children鈥檚 singers are popular, as well as the more grown-up 鈥楪ewaltig Leise鈥� comedy shows.
Cabaret can be enjoyed at the Kieler Woche, and an International Balloon Sail will provide a colourful night glow in the sky, before a music-synchronised firework display to close out the week.
