Deichpartie Finkenwerder

Every summer, the river island Finkenwerder invites mainlanders to experience the neighbourhood's rich cultural diversity.

Workshops, studios, farmhouses, the cutter port, and numerous heritage-protected landmarks offer guided tours, live music and activities.

Every two years, the island in the Elbe river celebrates itself and its culture at the Deichpartie street festival. The event focuses on many different topics: visitors can learn about the history, participate in activities, listen to live music and party.

The Cutter Port

The folk group ‘Finkenwarder Speeldeel’ chose a very special location for its concert during Deichpartie: the museum cutter ship Landrath Küster is turned into a stage. In addition, people can learn about tying sailor’s knots and fishing nets. Maritime delicacies like herring sandwiches provide the energy for this work. Some of the historic ships can not only be seen but also entered for a short spin up and down the river.

Arts and Crafts on the Elbe Island

Many artists and artisans have traditionally found a home on the quaint little island of Finkenwerder, where the big city is a world away… or optionally only a short ferry ride. These creative island-dwellers open their workshops and studios during Deichpartie: American artist Jessica McClam exhibits large-scale floral works in shiny colours. Mario Marquardt decorates leather handbags and briefcases; and the Wildwuchs brewery presents home-brewed craft beers. Amateur photographers can exhibit their favourite Finkenwerder snapshots during Deichpartie as well.

Finkenwerder Fruit-Growing

The cultivation of fruit on the Finkenwerder island has a long tradition. Various farms invite visitors onto their properties for tours, music, and fun games for adults and kids alike.

Programme for Children

There’s lots for kids to do and see. In several event locations, they can bake cookies, shoot bows and listen to fairy-tale readings. At the Bücherhalle library, kids create an elaborate portrait of the Finkenwerder neighbourhood.

For further information and a detailed programme see the official  website (German only).
