A Time-Travelling Classic Reimagined
Get ready to set your watches—Back to the Future – The Musical is coming to Hamburg’s Stage Operettenhaus from spring 2026. Based on the beloved 1985 film, the show invites audiences to join teenager Marty McFly and his eccentric friend Doc Brown on a high-speed journey through time in a DeLorean turned time machine. After a scientific experiment goes wrong, Marty finds himself stranded in 1955, where he must ensure his young parents fall in love—or risk erasing his own future forever.
Following its world premiere in Manchester in 2020 and an acclaimed West End run in London, the production makes its long-awaited German debut in Hamburg. Written by Bob Gale, co-creator of the original film trilogy, the musical features new songs and lyrics by Emmy- and Grammy-winning duo Alan Silvestri and Glen Ballard, alongside iconic hits from the movie soundtrack—including “The Power of Love,” “Earth Angel,” and “Johnny B. Goode.”
A High-Voltage Spectacle
With cutting-edge stage technology, lightning-fast choreography and spectacular effects, the musical recreates the excitement of time travel live on stage. Expect flying cars, neon lights, and a nostalgic dive into the pop culture of the 1980s. The story balances humour, heart and adventure, staying true to the charm of the original while delivering the thrill of a full-scale theatrical experience. Fans of the classic trilogy and newcomers alike can look forward to an electrifying journey “back in time” that captures the magic of cinema in musical form.
